What is Wordle?

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where you have 6 attempts to guess a hidden 5-letter word. After each guess, tiles change color to show how close your word is to the answer. A new puzzle is available every day at midnight, and everyone gets the same word.

The game was created by Josh Wardle in 2021 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, with millions of players sharing their results each day using the iconic colored grid pattern.

How do the colors work in Wordle?

The three colors provide different feedback about each letter in your guess:

🟩
Green: Correct letter in the correct position
🟨
Yellow: Correct letter in the wrong position
Gray: Letter not in the word

Use green and yellow clues to refine your guesses, and avoid gray letters in future attempts.

What happens with duplicate letters in Wordle?

Duplicate letters follow a simple rule: colored tiles never exceed the actual count of that letter in the answer.

Example: Answer is ABACK, you guess ARRAY

A
R
R
A
Y

The first A turns yellow, but the second A turns gray because there is only one A in the answer.

Watch how multiple copies of the same letter are colored to deduce letter counts in the hidden word.

Can I play more than one Wordle per day?

The official Wordle only offers one puzzle per day, which resets at midnight local time. This daily cadence is part of what makes Wordle a shared social experience — everyone is solving the same word on the same day.

However, you can practice with unlimited random words using our Practice Mode, which generates new puzzles on demand so you can improve your skills between daily challenges.

What is a good starting word in Wordle?

Mathematically optimal starting words balance common letters with diverse consonant coverage to maximize information from your first guess:

  • SALET: The information-theoretic optimal choice
  • SLATE / CRANE: Excellent balance of common letters
  • TRACE: Similar performance with T and R instead of L and N
  • AUDIO / ADIEU: Maximum vowel coverage for early vowel resolution

The best opener for you depends on your playing style, but all of these choices are mathematically proven to reduce possibilities efficiently.

What is Hard Mode in Wordle?

Hard Mode is an optional setting that forces you to use revealed clues in subsequent guesses. If a letter is marked yellow or green, you must include it in future guesses.

While Hard Mode sounds challenging, it can actually trap you into guessing from too many similar candidates. Experienced players often recommend making "probing" guesses — words that test distinguishing letters, even if they are not potential answers.

Example: If you're stuck between LIGHT/MIGHT/RIGHT/SIGHT/FIGHT, a probing guess like WORDY can test multiple letters at once to distinguish between candidates.

How does this Wordle Helper differ from a solver?

Pure solvers simply reveal the answer, which spoils the fun and teaches you nothing. Our Wordle Helper takes a different approach:

  • Tiered hints: Get progressive guidance from candidate counts to letter analysis
  • Coach mode: Propose a guess and get a score with reasoning about why it's good or bad
  • Never spoils: Helper mode never reveals the answer — only Practice mode can, and only when you request it
  • Educational focus: Built to make you a better player, not just solve puzzles for you

We help you learn Wordle strategies, not just finish the game.

Does Wordle repeat words?

Official Wordle maintains a curated list of answer words and does not repeat words until the entire list has been exhausted. Since there are over 2,300 possible answers, you will not see repeats for years under normal play.

Practice modes like ours draw from the same pool but can generate words at random without concern for the daily rotation.

What happens if I fail to guess the word?

If you use all 6 guesses without solving the puzzle, the game ends and reveals the correct answer. Your streak is reset to zero.

Streaks track consecutive wins and are a key part of Wordle's social sharing culture. Our Practice Mode lets you keep trying without streak pressure, making it ideal for learning and experimentation.

Can I use this Helper for the daily Wordle puzzle?

Yes! Our Helper mode is designed specifically for the daily Wordle. Enter your guesses and the resulting colors, and we will provide hints, candidate filtering, and coaching without ever revealing the answer.

Use it to get unstuck when you're stuck on a difficult puzzle, or to learn better strategies by seeing how our Coach analyzes your proposed guesses.
